A market of 140 million: Fishlabs explains why Russia matters
With a population of 143 million, Russia is the ninth most populous country in the world.

It's an advanced economy with strong natural resources and IT services, part of the G20 grouping, and a powerhouse in terms of game development, both casual PC and mobile.

It's also a booming consumer market, especially for a certain type of content.

That was the conclusion from Fishlabs' CEO Michael Schade at the Winter Nights conference, held over the weekend.

He pointed to the important of the Russia market for the company's hardcore sci-fi space combat game Galaxy on Fire 2

Big slice of pie

Russia is a particularly strong territory when it comes to Android devices, as demonstrated by the 14 percent of Galaxy on Fire 2's revenue it generated.

That puts it in second place, ahead of Fishlabs' domestic market - Germany.

When it comes to iOS, Russia is comparatively weaker, but still ranks within the top four markets for the game.

Russia's enthusiasm for all things Fishlabs also continues into social channels, where it's the top country for the company's YouTube channel and third in terms of the Galaxy on Fire Facebook page.

Of course, Facebook has local competition within Russia with local social networks such as VK and Odnoklassniki (classmates), which would likely reduce its ranking.
