Giant Interactive to bring ZT Online franchise to mobile

Chinese online publisher Giant Interactive (NYSE: GA) has announced its financials for FY13 Q3, the three months ending 30 September 2013.

Net revenue was $96.4 million (RMB 590 million), up 8.6 percent year-on-year.

Net income was $58.1 million (RMB 356 million), up 14 percent.

The number of active paying accounts rose 4.2 percent to 2.3 million, with average revenue per user up 2.9 percent to around $40 (RMB 245).

Mobile debut

At the moment, the vast majority of Giant's revenue comes from client online games, but it's rapidly moving into mobile and web games.

Its first mobile game will be Kung Fu BBQ, which is due to soft launch for iOS and Android at the end of 2013.

This will be joined by ZT Online Mobile - a version of Giant's very successful PVP fantasy RPG that monetises around random items from treasure chests - in early 2014. It will launch initially on iOS.

All systems go

"Our long-term game roadmap is robust, formulated to cement Giant as the leading developer and publisher of high quality games regardless of whether they are client-based games, webgames or mobile games," commented CEO Ms. Wei Liu.

The company ended the quarter with cash, equivalents and short-term investments worth $610 million (RMB 3.7 billion).
