In an interview with PG.biz last week, Glu Mobile CEO Niccolo De Masi outlined the way in which his company had overtaken mobile games powerhouses EA and Gameloft in the freemium race.
Glus rapid shift in emphasis from premium titles sold via carriers to free-to-play iOS and Android titles was crucial to its overall turnaround and awarded the publisher of Deer Hunter and Toyshop Adventures the first-mover advantage in this social space.
And now the third in Glus recent holy trinity of freemium success stories Gun Bros downloaded nearly 4.5 million times is set to reach out to a wider audience.
Gunning Facebook down
Later this week, fans of the twin-stick shooter will be able to invite friends along on adrenaline pumping missions on the Facebook, Wild Tangent, and hi5 platforms.
"Gun Bros has redefined social mobile gaming by innovating in the top-down shooter genre. One of the industry's most influential and commercially successful titles, Gun Bros is a natural for the "big" screen of PCs," said de Masi.
New recruits
The move to online answers the plea from Gun Bros players looking to build larger armies across a wealth of social channels and, in turn, allows Glu to extend its key monetisation strategy, micro-transactions.
Along with the obligatory cyborgs, humour, and outlandish weaponry, Gun Bros will bring HD graphics, stunning visual effects, and action-packed gameplay to Facebook, Wild Tangent, and hi5.
