'Blockbuster' titles make leap from Android

HandyGames hit for six on BlackBerry PlayBook
Exactly a week since RIM rolled out its first major update for PlayBook's firmware, HandyGames has revealed it's bringing six of its biggest releases to the tablet.

The games – which include Guns'n'Glory, Townsmen 6, Aporkalypse: Pigs of Doom, Cyberlords: Arcology, Tattoo Tycoon and infeCCt – have all previously been released on Android and mark a return to BlackBerry for the studio.

Back to Black

"HandyGames has traditionally been a multi-platform developer and games for the BlackBerry platform have been an important part of our business for many years," said CEO Christopher Kassulke.

"With the App World release of six of our most recent hit games for the PlayBook we're continuing in that tradition."

News of HandyGames' support will be well received at RIM, which has made courting Android developers a focus in the run up to the launch of PlayBook 2.0 OS.

Developers working on Google's platform who submit an app for PlayBook are awarded a free tablet for their troubles until 3 March, with RIM looking to build a sizeable library of both native apps, and those sourced from its support for Android.

Earlier in February, RIM claimed a total of 6,600 new developers had signed up to support PlayBook thanks to its tablet giveaway, with a total of 1,500 apps submitted.

Another notable supporter is Gameloft, which recently launched Modern Combat 2 and Asphalt 6 for PlayBook for free on BlackBerry App World.
