The first consumer device based on Nvidia's Tegra 3 processor (codenamed Kal-El) has been spotted at the PT/Expo Comm in Beijing.

It's the first time something using the next-generation processor has been seen in a device outside of demonstrations.

Made by Chinese OEM ZTE, the T98 is a 7-inch tablet rumoured to be packing a 1.5GHz processor underclocked at 1.3GHz.

There's 1GB RAM and 16GB storage with a 5 megapixel camera on the rear and a 2 megapixel camera on the front.

It runs on the tablet-centred Android 3.2 (Honeycomb) OS, and features a 1280x800 display with a 3G modem and a 4000mAh battery tucked away inside its 11.5mm-thick body.

There's been no word on possible pricing or release dates as yet.

Nvidia announced its intention to up the power efficiency of its Tegra 3 processor compared to previous iterations. Specifically it will feature a fifth companion chip to offer between 14 and 61 percent comparative power savings.
