GDC 2011: More than 200 studios look to tap up PlayPhone Social SDKs
Almost three weeks since PlayPhone lifted the lid on its new $10 million strong marketing fund, the company has claimed more than 200 developers have requested access to its SDKs for its new gaming platform – PlayPhone Social.

Said SDKs enable developers to tap into PlayPhone's gaming network on iOS and Android, with studios such as Liveware - which is currently in the process of bringing the Harvest Moon series to PlayPhone - and Chinese developer and operator HaKuNa already on board as committed partners.

"Developers now have an accessible platform to quickly harness PlayPhone's expertise in mobile entertainment distribution," said Anders Evju SVP and GM PlayPhone Social.

"PlayPhone Social is the new launching pad for quality freemium mobile social games, delivering new revenue and larger international audiences."

The firm's $10 million marketing fund – which awards games approved a share of the revenue pool to promote their PlayPhone Social enabled title – has no doubt been a major catalyst in the platform's interest so far.

PlayPhone also recently launched an HTML5-powered mobile browser SDK to enable developers to add scores of web-based entertainment content into their social games, as well as new monetisation and billing solutions.
