First party price points detailed

PS Vita's digital games to launch below £10 as Sony looks to perfect perception-based pricing
Those who accuse Sony of operating in a bubble, ignoring the advancements made in the mobile arena, might like to look away now.

Coupled with what the company is pitching as 'perception-based pricing', Sony has lifted the lid on the respective price points for PS Vita's initial line up of first party digital releases in the UK, with all five titles coming in at below £10.

No escape

Fun Bits Interactive's Escape Plan is the most expensive title on offer, set to retail for £9.99.

Following closely will be Top Darts, Hustle Kings and Super Stardust: Delta coming in at £6.49, with one of the platform's most anticipated – MotorStorm: RC from Evolution Studios (see below) – launching at £4.79.

The announcement comes as Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has attempted to justify PS Vita software's strategy of multiple price points in an interview with VentureBeat.

Feeling flexible

"For the past consoles, we had a pretty rigid price range we kept to," said Yoshida.

"But for PS Vita, you'll see games that sell for $50, $40, $30. And on the digital, $45, $35, $23, $15, $10 and $5. A very wide variety of pricing.

"We're looking at each title and the value and scope of the content, and trying to match people's value perception with the pricing. We are not just focused on big-budget, triple-A, $40 titles. We're big fans of the smaller experience as well."

Exact prices for Sony's digital first party line up in the US and Europe are yet to be revealed.
