Processing power put to the test

Qualcomm introduces 100 game strong Snapdragon Game Pack to push Adreno GPUs
Serving up stat-busting GPUs is a fruitless exercise if those writing the software designed to tap into the power they produce fail to take advantage.

Qualcomm's 'Snapdragon Game Pack' is both an attempt to bypass any such difficulties, and an opportunity for some of the biggest mobile game publishers to show exactly what they can do.

The program will consist of an initial batch of more than 100 titles specifically designed to get the most out of of Snapdragon's Adreno GPUs.

Said games – coming from the likes of Gameloft, Glu, Digital Chocolate, Namco Bandai, Babaroga, Booyah, Com2us, Polarbit, NaturalMotion, Southend Interactive, Eyelead Software, Guild Software and Tripwire Interactive – will then be sold via Android Market.

Packing in the power

There will also be opportunities to pre-install titles on Snapdragon equipped devices also on the cards.

"We are excited to be leading the way with the top game developers in the industry to bring better gaming experiences to Android and other platforms for everyone to enjoy," said Qualcomm's director of advanced content, Dave Durnil.

"Our in-house gaming team is comprised of lead programmers from major game studios that have launched commercial titles for consoles and mobile.

"This team is focused on enabling industry-leading gaming experiences for our next-generation Snapdragon mobile processors and supporting developers that are part of the Snapdragon Game Pack."

Qualcomm claims future phases of the Snapdragon Game Pack will be pitched at the firm's next-gen processors, featuring quad-core Adreno GPUs specifically aimed at the tablet market.
