Taking on 'seriously disjointed' app discovery

Humility not required: iOS receives its first indie game bundle

A coterie of indie developers has banded together to release the Thumb Arcade Game Bundle - a collective of 10 iOS games which users can download at steep savings.

According to organisers, said games would cost $23.90 individually, but the bundle comes in at $5.00, dropping the price per game down to 50 cents.

More impressive, however, is that the installs are conducted entirely through iTunes after codes are emailed to players.

The road to discoverability

Due to the nature of the App Store, many thought the idea of a bundle was impossible - and Thumb Arcade isn't exactly forthcoming with how it managed to pull the Game Bundle together.

At first blush, the Thumb Arcade Game Bundle shares much in common with the charity-focused Humble Bundle for Android - currently on its seventh iteration - but the end goals for each Bundle are markedly divergent.

While Humble Bundle allows gamers to name their own price and allocate their donation between charity, the developers, and the Humble Bundle movement itself, Thumb Arcade's bundle is aimed squarely at taking on the frustrating issue of discoverability in the App Store

"Selfpubd's central goal is to reimagine the seriously disjointed app discovery process, so we persevered until it became a reality," detailed Andy Rosic, founder of Selfpubd, the parent company of Thumb Arcade.

But Thumb Arcade's bundle isn't without conscience - it includes an option to support the One Day's Wages charity.

The games included in the Thumb Arcade bundle are Sentinel 3: Homeworld, Forever Lost: Episode 1, Circulets, Angry Robot: Wall Street Titan, Kill the Clowns, Dragon Siege, War of Words, Fruits'n Tails, IncrediBlox, and Chicks Ahead.

Thumb Arcade’s bundle will be available until 31 October 31, or until sales reach their maximum threshold. Those interested in learning more can visit the Bundle's website.
