Unity has announced its intention to add support for more and more new platforms in the future, driven by the company's new office in the US city of Boston.
The new base naturally named Unity Boston has been formed following the acquisition of the team behind Darkwind Media, which specialises in porting games and engines to a range of different platforms.
As a result, Unity Boston's prime focus will be to lead the deployment of Unity's tools for platforms already supported by the engine, and those set to be added in the future.
Together as one
Indeed, Darkwind Media comprised of what the company claims are "deeply experienced engineers" - has been working on building new platform development tools for Unity for the last three years, having facilitating the porting of several of the engine's games to different platforms.
The firm has also worked on projects for the likes of Nvidia and IndiePub, amongst others.
Now, the team is being brought on board in a more official sense, with Unity CEO David Helgason claiming the move "makes a lot of sense for the continued development of Unity."
"We've been working with this team for years and watched them develop an exceptional understanding of Unity," he added.
"This is an experienced and talented team and we are incredibly excited to see them come on board as our new Boston office."
Unity claims its Boston office will now initially focus on perfecting new add ons for BlackBerry, as well as upcoming additions to Unity as a whole. The office is also taking on new team members in both the platform development and QA positions. More details can be found on the Unity website.
