Zynga buys Floodgate team, rolled into Zynga Boston

Zynga buys Floodgate team, rolled into Zynga Boston
Casual gaming giant Zynga just can't stop buying companies. Its latest purchase - its tenth in 10 months - is Boston-based mobile and PC studio Floodgate Entertainment.

However, we've been asked to point out that Zynga has acquired the Floodgate team, not the company itself.

I'm guessing that means Zynga doesn't have access to Floodgate's IP, technology or its debts - just its people.

And considering it consists of veterans from highly regarded PC outfit Looking Glass, that's the bit that matters. Floodgate worked on big Java and Brew licences such as Nascar and Madden for EA Mobile, as well releasing its own Mo-Pets nurturing game, and various PC titles.

Join the family

According to TechCrunch, the team will join the existing Zynga Boston studio, with founder Paul Neurath, taking the role of its creative director. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In recent months, Zynga's also bought Drop7 developer Area/Code - now Zynga New York - and Words with Friends' developer Newtoy - now Zynga with Friends.

Yet, despite all this activity, Zynga remains a relatively small player in the mobile market, at least in terms of number of releases with only half a dozen iOS titles available to-date.
