20 million players strong, has a post-Naxxramas Hearthstone sustained at the top of iPad's top grossing charts?

Hearthstone, Blizzard's World of Warcraft-inspired card battler, has been out for a number of months now. Indeed, we originally considered it in The Charticle in April.

But, after the announcement of 20 million players across PC and iPad, we wanted to see how much staying power the game had.

On paper, you wouldn't bet against it. Addictive, tactical, and highly competitive, Hearthstone has all of the ingredients needed to become a long term hit on the most competitive of marketplaces.

However, as we all know, it's near-impossible to predict what will and won't succeed on mobile, and even though I might think Blizzard's newest recruit can go all the way, the App Store might just chew it up, and spit it right back out.

So, will Hearthstone stand the test of time? Let's find out.

Live long and prosper

On the US top grossing chart for iPad, Hearthstone has struggled to maintain its top 10 momentum, dropping out of the top 20 with frequency.

However, a peak position of #5 following the Curse of Naxxramas update proves that Blizzard's card battler can still pack a punch.

Over on the European top grossing charts - which look at Germany, Italy, France, Spain, and the UK - Hearthstone has managed to retain some of that all-important consistency.

The game is still a constant presence inside the top 20, and frequently breaks into the top 10.

Despite dropping out sporadically, Hearthstone looks certain to be one of the App Store's big European earners for some time to come.

The Asian top grossing charts - which in this case look at China and South Korea - are something of mixed bag.

Hearthstone is still looking incredibly strong in South Korea, where, until very recently, it has spent the entirety of its life in the top 20, peaking at #1.

Unfortunately, the game's popularity in China has wavered.

Despite previously holding the #1 for a number of weeks, Hearthstone has struggled to climb back into the top 20 after dropping out in May, and a brief resurgence in August - post-Curse of Naxxramas - wasn't sustained.

What do you call someone who has an unhealthy obsession with video games and Sean Bean? That'd be a 'Chris Kerr'. Chris is one of those deluded souls who actually believes that one day Sean Bean will survive a movie. Poor guy.
