What tools does Candy Crush maker King use to develop its hugely successful games?

At Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki 2016, Oleg Pridiuk, an Evangelist at King, gave a talk on the technologies that the studio uses to make its games.

The main technologies it utilises are Unity, Fiction Factory and Defold, the latter being the studio's own development tool. Despite its use of Unity, it has never published a game with the engine.

Folding it all in

"We do a lot of development in Unity," said Pridiuk, but he noted that when it comes to actually shipping the game and focusing on mobile elements such as reducing battery drain and increasing the speed of the app, King's internal development tools are better optimised.

Defold is the latest development tool King is implementing, and the first that it is making available to mobile developers – all for free.
