Japan-based mobile game publisher Gumi has partnered with Nordic film studio Nordisk Film to establish a €100,000 incubation program called Nordic VR Startups.

The program will offer seed funding to selected companies as well as supplying workspaces and back-office services. Guidance will also be given by mentors from Gumi and Nordisk Film.

Additional R&D funding will be available from partner Finish funding agency Tekes, while events will also be run throughout the program with Finland's Finnish Virtual Reality Association.

Enabling a pool of talent

"The Nordic region brings tremendous creative and engineering talent to the gaming and film industries, and we're focused on enabling this pool of talent to grow in the VR market with our available resources and expertise," said Hironao Kunimitsu, CEO of Gumi Inc, as reported by VRFocus.

"We've already experienced great success with our Tokyo VR Startups program in the East, and by working with the accomplished Nordisk Film group, we'll be able to expand our program further into Europe."

Gumi has been increasing its VR input in recent months. In January 2017 it partnered with EUVR to bring more VR investment to European developers.
