Helix Jump is one of the hottest games of 2018, setting the app stores alight with more than 200 million downloads to date.

The game is developed by H8 Games and published by hyper-casual games specialist Voodoo, the latter of which recently took a $200 million investment from Goldman Sachs.

This case study offers a look at how the two companies worked together to create a big hit.

"From the very beginning of our cooperation with Voodoo, it was clear that these guys were really taking care of each game and trying hard to bring success for both of us,” said H8 Games CTO Oleg Batrakov.

“Voodoo is filled with talented people that have a good balance between personal and commercial relationships.”

GameAnalytics has released a report detailing some key stats around mobile game retention.

It claims that fewer than 15 per cent of games retain more than 35 per cent of new players after day one.

The report suggested that if 35 per cent of new players returned after day one, this would show a title is doing well. Less than that, developers might want to take another look at onboarding and design or kill the game entirely - depending on expectations.

“Working with these developers on a day to day basis, it's clear that studios who take time to monitor their metrics, run experiments, and use data in their campaigns take the lion's share of revenue,” said GameAnalytics CEO Ioana Hreninciuc.

Google Play just celebrated its 10-year anniversary - so Sensor Tower took a look at the longest-serving number one games and apps since 2012.

The top free game was none other than Etermax’s Trivia Crack, followed by H8 Games Helix Jump as the only two games in the top 10.

As for premium, it’s no surprise to see Minecraft topping the list with an astonishing 1,944 days at the summit.

As for the top grossers, King’s Candy Crush Saga has spent the longest time at the top, with Supercell’s Clash of Clans close behind.
