Newport-based developer Tiny Rebel Games has secured funding from the Welsh government and publisher Double Eleven to work on its upcoming licensed mobile game Doctor Who Infinity.

The game is being co-developed with Taiwan-based developer Seed Studio and a team of actors, artists, and writers from around the UK. Stafford Bawler, composer of the soundtrack for Monument Valley, will the take the reins as audio director.

Funding for the game has been provided in a joint venture by the Welsh Government’s Media Investment Budget and Double Eleven. It is due to be soft-launched in Spring 2018, with a full launch shortly afterwards.

Doctor Who Infinity will be Tiny Rebel's second game using the license. Its first, Doctor Who: Legacy, launched in 2013, reached 2.5 million players, making it one of the most popular Doctor Who games ever made.

Humbled

"As executive producer on Doctor Who Infinity, it has been an incredible delight to be able to pull together such extraordinarily talented people to realize our ambitions for this new game," said Tiny Rebel's Susan Cummings.

"I am continually humbled by the quality of work they are doing, and I think Doctor Who fans everywhere are going to be amazed with how we have taken everything we have learned from making the award-winning gameplay of Doctor Who: Legacy and brought it to the next level in every way imaginable."

We spoke with Tiny Rebel back in 2014 about the development of Doctor Who: Legacy. Cummings said at the time that, in terms of IPs the team wanted to work with, "Doctor Who was at the top of our list."
