Ubisoft Berlin receives $1.84m in subsidies from city senate

Ubisoft Berlin has received a sizeable subsidy of $1.84m (€1.58m) for expansion from the Berlin Senate.
The financial boost comes toBlue Byte’s new location from the Berlin Senate department for economics, energy and enterprises, reports German outlet Games Wirtschaft.
The studio plans to use this subsidy to upscale its operations and create 150 new jobs in the city.
Capital gains
Funding comes as part of the city’s €130m subsidy fund for business settlements and company expansion in Berlin. The grant was presented personally to representatives of Ubisoft by Berlin mayor and senator for economic affairs Ramona Pop.
"Blue Byte GmbH brings the know-how and experience of elaborate large-scale productions to Berlin, thereby strengthening the capital's profile as a leading European development center for interactive entertainment,” said Pop.
Ubisoft Blue Byte is the German wing of the French publisher, and operates three studios in three cities across the country.
The Ubisoft Berlin site opened earlier this year, dropping the Blue Byte branding, and recently worked behind-the-scenes on Far Cry 5.
Blue Byte has worked on numerous titles for the publisher, including mobile game Assassin's Creed Identity.
