Facebook launches HTML5 platform Instant Games for News Feed and Messenger

Facebook has launched its new Instant Games platform compatible in both its Facebook News Feed and Messenger services.

The platform is run on HTML5 and is available on both mobile and web. Players will be able to access the games by tapping a button below their chats.

Games will stream within the Messenger and Facebook apps, without the need to install additional apps. Built-in scoreboards will also be available to promote competition between friends.

Starting small

Instant Games is available on iOS 8 and above, and Android 5 and above. It has launched in 30 countries with 17 games available from the start.

Facebook is also looking for developers to get their games onto Instant Games. The platform boasts a reach of 1.79 billion users on Facebook and one billion on the Messenger app alone.

Early supporters of the platform include Zynga, King and Spil Games.

Developers can register their interest on the platform on Facebook's developer website.
