Square Enix is expanding both of its Montréal Studios by opening up over 100 new jobs.
The expansion comes as part of a joint-announcement between Canadian and Japanese officials. Square Enix’ offices in the country already employ almost 700 people, representing the firm’s largest development units outside of Japan.
Square Enix Montréal, developer of small-budget spinoffs like Lara Croft Go and Hitman Go, is set to more than double in size this year. The studio has no new projects in the public eye right now but is moving to develop free-to-play mobile games.
Meanwhile, Eidos Montréal will likewise benefit from the new hires, the triple-A developer behind Shadow of the Tomb Raider and the modern day Deus Ex titles is also having its 55,000 square-foot office renovated. The improvements will bring Eidos a new motion-capture studio, a photogrammetry studio, and a user research lab.
