Launched in 2012, the closure comes as GREE's struggles in the west triggered an extended round of streamlining, though it's understood Tellit's closure penciled in for 1 September - won't result in any job losses.
Nevertheless, GREE has already been moved to close its offices in the UK, while staff have also been laid off in the US and China.
Strategical focus
"In recent weeks we have been optimising our global operations and product lineup strategically based on a policy of selection and concentration," explained a GREE spokesman.
"As part of that process, we decided, after much deliberation, to close Tellit so that we can focus our efforts on other opportunities."
Interestingly, Tellit's demise comes as rival chat platforms - KakaoTalk and LINE of most note - have successfully merged their messaging services with gaming.
The closure also brings GREE's investment in Netherlands based developer eBuddy, the designers of the messaging app, into question, though for most commentators it's the company's continue missteps in the west that's drawing the most concern.
