Thanks to Quiz RPG's TV ads, Colopl sees FY13 sales rise 230% to $170 million

Japanese mobile games publisher Colopl (TYO: 3668) has released its FY13 financials, for the 12 months ending 30 September 2013.

Sales were ¥16.8 billion ($170 million), up 230 percent.

Net profit was ¥3.2 billion ($33 million), up 306 percent.

The company explained that this performance was based around the transition of the Japanese mobile market from browser games to native games.

Its key titles during the period were Pro Baseball Pride and Quiz RPG: The World of Mystic Wiz, which has had 17 million downloads.

Also the company's casual Kuma the Bear franchise gained another 5 million users, bringing its total to 27 million.

As well as games, Colopl offers a location-based mobile platform - for apps and games - and virtual collaboration technology, although their contribution to sales is small.

Game performance - particularly that of Quiz RPG: The World of Mystic Wiz - was boosted by the company's decision to do TV advertising; something that proved to be cost effective in terms of the overall profit margin, which remained high at 36 percent.
