Japan declines but DeNA sees H1 FY13 sales up 2% to $1 billion

Japanese mobile social gaming company DeNA (TYO:2432), has announced its FY13 half year figures, the six months ending 30 September 2013.

Revenue was $1 billion (¥99.8 billion), up 2 percent year-on-year.

Profits were $190 (¥19 billion), down 14 percent.

DeNA said it experienced a 5 percent decline in consumption of Mobage's virtual currency, MobaCoin, in Japan because of the weak performance of first- and second party games.

However, international consumption grew to $155 million, being especially strong in the US, hence the overall rise in sales.

Profits decreased because of higher marketing costs, notably in North America.

Faster, faster

DeNA said it would accelerate its release schedule with 60 titles planned for Japan during the financial year, of which 70 percent would be native apps.

Internationally, it hopes to release 20 games

The company ended the quarter with cash and equivalents worth $650 million (¥64 billion), down $34 million from three months ago.
