Gold rush or geopolitical nightmare?

Developers discuss the problems and potential in the SARCC region

At Pocket Gamer Connects Bangalore 2015, Monty Munford led a panel of developers in a discussion about the potential to be found in the SARCC region.

That stands for South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation and comprises of the following countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

He was joined by Oliver Jones, co-founder & director of Moonfrog Labs; Siddharth Puri, CEO of Tyroo; Anurag Rana, VP Product Development at Threye; and Nimit Panpalia, Global Head of Developer Acquistion, at POKKT.

The new cricket

Munford opened with a quote from Rana, who said that "mobile games could be the new cricket," as the region is rapidly expanding and more smartphones are becoming available.

However, there are fears that while the growth might lead to financial prosperity, geopolitical concerns may create tension in the region, or as Rana puts it, there could be some "tussles for elbow room."
