Video: The opportunities and obstacles in the Chinese market

At Pocket Gamer Connects San Francisco 2015, consultant Josh Burns gave a talk about China and the opportunities it affords mobile game developers.

According to Burns, "smartphone adoption is fairly new" in China, so there's still room for the market to grow, although revenue is "already very meaningful," so it can be hard to make money when entering the market.

Spoilt for choice?

The market is "heavily dominated by Android", mainly because of the number of low-cost models available, and users are largely using them for simple, casual games.

But there's a huge number of app stores available to them, and there's no way of knowing which store is the best for your game, as Burns says "it's very difficult to truly understand how they compare versus each other."
