The virtual world gets more real

You can use your mobile phone in PlayStation VR with AnywhereVR

Sony Music Entertainment is developing a new app that lets you view your phone screen while wearing a virtual reality headset.

Shown off during the Tokyo Game Show in Japan, the AnywhereVR app lets you hook up your mobile phone to a PlayStation VR headset.

You can then use your phone against a selection of different virtual landscapes, such as a beach, and your own music. The video below says users can "enjoy their smartphone, Twitter and minigames" with AnywhereVR.

Smartphones anywhere

The phone doesn’t appear to be tracked however. Rather it appears onscreen as a hologram on top of the virtual environment.

It’s not quite clear just yet how users will be able to make and track their input to their mobile screen or whether this technology could be used in general for other apps and games.

You can get a first look at AnywhereVR from Sony’s Tokyo Game Show Press Conference below.

PlayStation VR is set to launch on October 13th.
