Unity wants to make publishing mobile games in China easier for developers with Xiaomi partnership

Unity has revealed a new partnership with China-based Android device manufacturer Xiaomi to help developers release their games in the region.

As part of the deal, Xiaomi will assist developers in China's licensing process. It will also allow developers to launch their apps on Xiaomi's app store.

The partnership is beneficial for Unity too. Unity Ads is now the only third-party ad network authorised within the Xiaomi network.

Tough nut to crack

Xiaomi's involvement could prove to be incredibly helpful for breaking into the tough China market. Aside from having to contend with a multitude of different app stores in the country, there's also numerous government restrictions in place on apps.

Whether the agreement means Unity will be adding support for Xiaomi's latest VR headset is unclear. However, given Unity's advances into VR, it seems likely the option would be made available.
