LINE grows revenues to $1.2 billion despite global MAUs falling by three million

Tokyo-based LINE Corporation (TYO:3938) has posted its year-end financials for its FY16 period ending December 31st 2016.

The company posted revenues of $1.2 billion for 2016, an increase of 16.9% year-on-year. Its revenues for Q4 were $328.1 million, up 4.5% quarter-on-quarter.

LINE also posted profits of $69.2 million for the year. It announced a loss of a similar amount in its 2015 financial year.

Going elsewhere

While its revenues may be up, its users are down. LINE revealed that its global MAUs were at 217 million, down three million quarter-on-quarter.

Its MAUs in its key countries of Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan and Thailand saw an increase however. MAUs in these countries alone reached 167 million, up five million quarter-on-quarter and 22 million year-on-year.

Looking ahead, LINE expects to see continued growth thanks to its advertising business. It is also looking to stabilise revenues of its "communication" sector with sticker packs for its messenger app.
