The Pokemon Company's profits shoot up to $143.3 million after success of Pokemon GO

The Pokemon Company's profits surged to $143.3 million in its last financial year ending February 28th 2017.

As reported by consultant Serkan Toto on his blog, the company reported its profits in an official government journal called the Kanpo. As it is privately-held, it does not have to disclose all of its financials and therefore did not reveal any sales figures.

Toto notes that the $143.3 million in profits is an increase by a factor of 26 over the previous year's profits. The Pokemon Company generated just $5.6 million in profits in its financial year ending February 28th 2016.

Big hitters

The main cause for its spike in profits was the launch of both Niantic's Pokemon GO and the company's own 3DS titles Pokemon Sun/Moon.

Pokemon GO alone is estimated to have generated over $1 billion in revenue since it first launched less than a year ago. It has also received numerous accolades, including a BAFTA for Best Mobile Game.

The Pokemon Company is also continuing to develop more mobile games. It recently launched Magikarp Jump and is currently alpha testing a 3D brawler called Pokeland.
