Gungho Online Entertainment has released its financials for the full year of its FY17 ending December 31st 2017.
The company posted revenues of $835.4 million for the year, down 17.9% year-on-year. Profits for the year also fell, down 19.8% year-on-year to $202.7 million.
Puzzle & Dragons is almost squarely to blame for the falling revenues, as sales in the game continue to fall each quarter. This is despite updates to the main game and the release of companion game Puzzle & Dragons Radar.
Doubling down
Undeterred, Gungho has decided to launch its Puzzle & Dragon 2018 project to reignite interest in the game. This will include a new anime series, a new manga, new toys, and more. The game has also been "certified" as an esport, and tournaments will be held around Japan from April 2018.
The company is also throwing its weight behind a new mobile game, Calcio Fantasista. It is a soccer simulation title with management elements, designed specifically for the Japan market.
Despite its continued decline, Puzzle & Dragons continues to be one of the highest-grossing games in Japan. It has also passed 62 million downloads worldwide since launch.
