India will be home to 310 million gamers by 2021, claims a study from Pune-based entertainment group Jetsynthesys.

According to The Indian Express, the report studied the gaming preferences of 1,100 users across a range of ages and platforms.

Key drivers

By the year 2021, the study claims one in two Indians will have played at least one mobile game. Right now, 735 million Indian citizens are online, with games like Fortnite and PUBG Mobile are cited as key drivers of growth.

Gamers under 24 make up half of the game-playing audience - of the other half, the majority are under the age of 36. Mobile is the most popular platform for Indians, at 59 per cent. PC follows at 23 per cent, with consoles at only a 10 per cent share of the total games market.

Most are finding games directly from storefronts, with 61 per cent discovering new titles on places like the App Store. Awareness through word of mouth and YouTube coverage follow at 14 and 13 per cent respectively.
