Whilst Gamescom Asia may have been largely focused on the APAC region, the Spanish games industry were also very well represented, both within the convention iteslf, via multiple representatives and a lively presentation, and then after hours at the Games from Spain Networking Dinner in association with Steel Media..

Working with representatives from the ICEX Spain Trade and Investment and Spanish game publishers, the evening event brought together a series of leading global publishers and investors including Tilting Point, TikTok, Plarium, Plug In Digital, Play Ventures and Defiance Capital to make connections, discuss the opportunities available and enjoy a sumptious set menu.

The hosts shared some key information about the burgeoning Spanish games industry, made up of over 435 companies producing over 1,100 titles a year across multiple platforms and generating over €1.1 billion, citing recent success stories such as a new Metroid developed in Spain by MercurySteam for Nintendo, the purchase of Digital Legends by Activision and Tencent’s investments in Tequila Works and Novarama. You can get a sense of the event from the video below.

Steel Media's CEO Chris James, who was also in attendance, was typically effusive: "This was a great showcase for the Spanish games industry and and advert for the country's cuisine also! It was a genuine pleasure to be involved, I learned a lot and made some valuable new connections."

Those who weren't able to attend this time round can get an insight into the latest games, initiatives and opportunities via the Games from Spain website, and look forward to future events at Gamescom Asia in Singapore and beyond.
