An overview of India's games market in 2016 and why it's a sleeping giant for mobile games

At Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki 2016, Nazara CEO Manish Agarwaldiscussed what the India games market has looked like in 2016 and why developers around the world should release their titles there.

Agarwal started by saying that India will follow in the steps of the huge China mobile games market, but it is currently six or seven years behind it.

A sleeping giant

“There are a hundred million mobile gamers roughly in the country today as we speak,” he said.

He noted however that India shouldn’t be looked at through the China lens, as many feature phones are still being sold in the country with 2G capabilities, with a number of people not able to afford a smartphone.

He said the market will eventually change as hundreds of millions more people become connected to the internet and get into mobile gaming over the next few years.
