Ladies love cool mobile games demos
Mpowerplayer says that 65 per cent of the users of its Mplayit Mobile Arcade mobile games discovery application are female, based on a survey of 50,000 users.

The app is available on Facebook and MySpace, and lets people try emulated demos of mobile games from all the big publishers in the US market.

More than half the sample were between the ages of 18 and 34, too. "This is a difficult demographic to target because they're not inclined to waste time trying to find a game on their phone," says CEO Michael Powers.

"However, when we show them that their favorite web games are available for their phone, they get interested. And when you add the social element and the content is recommended by their friends, they don't hold back."

The company has stats to back that assertion up too, claiming that on average, 14 per cent of games played within the application results in the user clicking through to buy the mobile version. For top titles, that rises to 33 per cent.

So what games are being boosted by the Mobile Arcade? Evergreen casual games like Bejeweled and Ms. Pac-Man, apparently.

Which is strange, given that both need (or so you'd think) little explanation, thanks to their familiarity. Perhaps users just want to make sure the mobile versions are faithful to their memories.
