Traps n' Gemstones heads the Quality Index's Top 10 rated Android and iOS games of July 2014

If you were wondering what the best-reviewed iOS and Android games of July 2014 were, here are the iPhone Quality Index, iPad Quality Index, and Android Quality Index round-ups to fill you in.

The iPhone, iPad, and Android Quality Indexes boast over 650,000 reviews (in total) from websites like 148Apps, Pocket Gamer, and IGN, and use a unique metric to create a single definitive score for each iOS and Android title.

Indy-pendent

Traps n' Gemstones was the run-away winner at the top of the July Qi iPhone game chart. It's a lovingly crafted adventure-platformer set in a sprawling pyramid packed full of interconnected spatial puzzles.

Down at number eight, we have Gameloft's latest console-style FPS, Modern Combat 5: Blackout. It's the tightest and best looking iteration yet, offering up a newly mobile-friendly single player element and solid multiplayer competition.

At number two on the QiiPad game chart is Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. We don't often see games of such scale and ambition on iOS, but Capcom has pulled this 3D multiplayer action RPG conversion off with some style.

There are monsters of a different, altogether cuter kind at number three. Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake from Cartoon Network is a charming puzzler that expertly borrows much of its look and feel from Nintendo's Zelda series.

At number two on the July Qi Android game chart is Wayward Souls, an ambitious roguelike action-RPG with random dungeons and countless imaginatively drawn monsters to slay.

Down at number seven, we have Wave Wave - the latest example of the twitch gaming craze that's sweeping through mobile. Dodge up and down in a strikingly jagged world, and stay alive for as long as possible.

N.B. While we only display the average score to one decimal place, the lists are generated to further significant figures. We just don't show them all.

And, naturally, these are static graphs based on live listings which are subject to constant change as new releases and reviews emerge.

In order to provide a regular marker of the critical zeitgeist, however, we will continue to round up the best of the iOS and Android games released each month to provide the definitive Quality Index top tens.
