Parallel Kingdom dev PerBlue raises $3 million

US mobile developer PerBlue has announced a $3 million funding round.

The investment was led by Chicago investor Lightbank.

PerBlue says it will use the cash to bulk up its team, as well as building audiences for its games.

Greed is good

The startup out of University of Wisconsin-Madison is best known for its location-based title Parallel Kingdom, but in recent years has branched out into more traditional games such as strategy title Greed for Glory.

It claims around 10 million players globally.

"We're honored to be Lightbank's first investment in Wisconsin, and hope our success in Madison will lead to other innovations in the region," said Justin Beck, co-founder and CEO of PerBlue.

The company previously raised $800,000 in 2010 from angel investors.
