Kabam signs up for free-to-play games based on The Lord of Rings and Mad Max

Having already signed up The Hunger Games  and Fast & Furious, Kabam is doubling down, announcing new deals to make games based on the movies licences for The Lord of the Rings  and Mad Max.

Of course, Kabam has previously generated over $100 million on mobile and PC from its game based on The Hobbit, and these new deals build on Kabam's existing relationship with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

Technically, the games will be co-published.

Riding the silver screen

No more details have been provided, but a new Mad Max  film is due to be released in May 2015.

Mad Max: Fury Road  is the first in what's expected to be a new film trilogy.

"Kabam's demonstrated expertise is very impressive, and extending our partnership with their team will help both companies achieve continued success," said WBIE EVP, publishing operations, David Haddad.

"Building two new mobile games based on well-known The Lord of the Rings  and Mad Max  brands is a strategic part of our growth as the appetite for digital content continues to grow."
