Quality Index: The week's best Android games - Delver, Zombro
Every week, Pocket Gamer sister site Android Quality Index (Android Qi) highlights the newest games to make a critical splash in the cool, seductive waters of the Google Play pool.

Grabbing scores and opinions from all corners of the web, including from Gamezebo, Know Your Mobile, and AndroidTapp, Qi answers all your Android-related questions before you've even asked them.

Today, we're going to focus on two new contenders vying to be crowned king of your Android device. Both are worthy, but do they have what it takes to win your head, your heart, and your wallet?

Hip to be square

Reaching up from the depths of the Android dungeon to the top of the Qi chart this week comes blocky action-RPG Delver.

Though Priority Interrupt's first-person fantasy adventure may owe a visual debt to Minecraft, you'll be too busy swatting goblins and plundering loot for building a two-bedroom property with views of the sea to notice / care.

Yes, this is role-playing fare just as Gygax intended, complete with randomly generated dungeons, over-sized spiders, and more wizards than you can shake a staff at.

Plus, just to show you it ain't messing around, all deaths are permanent. That's right, folks: no backsies.

Though still technically an alpha build, Delver managed to reach into the heart of Pocket Gamer's reviewer, who thinks it could become "another retro-themed classic".

Pull yourself together

Falling to pieces further down this week's Android Top 10 is dismemberment-themed platform-puzzler Zombro.

Where most games usually have you blowing zombies to bits in the name of survival, this quirky number requires you to dismantle your undead protagonist so that he can manoeuvre around obstacles.

For example, when presented with a low-hanging obstruction, our lurching hero can remove his legs, send them on ahead to clear the way, then re-attach his wayward limbs and shamble to victory.

If this all sounds a bit macabre, don't worry: as its name would imply, developer Making Fun has taken a suitably tongue-in-cheek approach to the rending of virtual limbs.

The folks at Modojo took a shine to Zombro's satisfying separation mechanic, labelling the title "a refreshingly different and fun game".
