Yokozuna Data: A Keywords Studio CEO África Periañez delivers a Live Ops Landscape session at Pocket Gamer Connects Seattle 2019 on May 13th to 14th.

Video game player actions generate extremely rich datasets. Data-driven game development has extraordinary potential to provide players with an optimised game experience, while increasing monetisation.

Deep-learning methods serve to predict individual-player behaviour, including the moment and game level at which a certain player will leave the game, when she will make the next purchase, and which virtual item she is likely to select. This enables developers to take preventive actions addressed to retain users, based on personalised recommendations.

The IEEE 2017 Conference on Computational Intelligence in Games hosted a game data mining competition, in which teams were to accurately predict churn within NCSOFT’s game Blade and Soul.

In this talk, I will cover the modelling techniques that led us to win both tracks of that contest. Machine learning can also optimise in-game events and marketing campaigns, enabling developers to foresee the impact of different event sequences on sales and playtime. These models provide invaluable insights in order to strategically design the game’s evolution and on how to best target specific groups of players.

  • What is inclusive content and why is it important?

A Thinking Ape producer Finn-Lily Heartwood and game designer Nicole Maiorano deliver a Live Ops Landscape session at Pocket Gamer Connects Seattle 2019 on May 13th to 14th.

Whether it’s making a setting feel grounded in reality, or having content resonate with a wider global audience, inclusive content is vital for games wishing to reflect the diversity of real life and the players thereof. Today’s players expect to feel represented in the media they consume and demand that creators give them these options. With this presentation, we’ll look at what inclusive content is, why it’s important to our players in Party in my Dorm, and how we develop it in the context of a live ops environment.
