Supercell on what it takes to make a great game, Wilhelm That joins Dodreams, and the making of Donut County

What does it take to create a great game? According to Supercell veteran designer Touko Tahkokallio it's certainly more than one great idea.

At GDC this year, Tahkokallio described Supercell's approach to game design and how rather than attempting to flawlessly execute one initial idea, the Finnish dev preferred to prototype and test to find the best path to the number of problems it faced in the development.

His words clearly found resonance, as the story was our most read of the week.

Following on was the news that Former Rovio EVP Wilhelm Taht has joined the Dodreams board of directors, as well as making an undisclosed investment in the Finnish mobile developer.

Donut County, Super Mario Run and Star Wars

Departing Finland for our third entry, we caught up with Donut County mayor Ben Esposito, who gave us the inside track on why development took six-years and the meaning behind the humorous tale.

Rounding off our list is Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto on some of his regrets with Super Mario Run, and our deep dive into the dangerous allure of F2P mobile Star Wars games.
