Getting good support from Samsung

Com2uS is bullish on bada: We're aiming to have most of our line-up on bada
With the launch of Samsung's Wave smartphone, due in April, heralding our first look at the company's bada mobile operating system cum mobile platform, we're interested to see how developers are dealing with the new technology.

One company backing bada is Korean publisher Com2uS, which had its first playable code - a version of its iPhone and Android game Homerun Battle 3D - available on the Samsung stand at Mobile World Congress.

We caught up with its team leader for global business development, Joony Koo to find out more.

Pocket Gamer: What's it been like working on bada?

Joony Koo: As is often the case, it wasn't the easiest platform to work on at the beginning but, given the time frame since its launch, it didn't take as long as we had expected, nor did it prove to be too much of a hassle for us.

Samsung is making a lot of effort to make sure bada is stable and robust, and we're getting good support if we find any issues in the SDK. This sort of attention to detail will prevail in the long run.

Why you think bada will be successful in the long run?

What will be important with bada will be for Samsung to release great handsets that sell millions of units. As well as a good development environment, there needs to be viable market.

Given that Samsung has a 20 percent share of global handset sales, I think it will be successful, assuming there's not fragmentation in future.

How quickly have you been able to get games working on bada?

For the version of Homerun Battle 3D we showed at Mobile World Congress, it took us six weeks from starting with the iPhone build to get it running well on bada. That included getting online multiplayer to work against players using the iPhone and Android versions of the game.

What games will Com2uS release for bada?

We are aiming to release most of our game line-up on bada, including already released iPhone titles such as Inotia 2, and Heavy Gunner, and also our new mobile online RPG IMO.

Thanks to Joony for his time.

Developers can keep up-to-date with bada via Samsung's developers blog.
