Yoko Nakao: 2013 is going to be an exciting year for Kabam, with great growth fueled by the success of Kingdoms of Camelot: Battle of the North and The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth in 2012.

We are continuing to invest in strategic growth through more game genres and platforms, including mobile and the Web.

We're always looking for top talent, and it's not in just one function. We have studios that house multiple game teams, and there is a need for professionals in engineering, game design, project management, product management, product marketing, and more.

We have seasoned staff who come from varied backgrounds – from tech and videogames, to investment banking and consulting.

What competencies and/or qualifications might your company be looking for from any candidates this year?

We're of course looking for functional expertise in whatever role we're looking to fill. For example, technical expertise and project management skills for a development director.

Beyond that, we look for people who are comfortable with analytics, as that is the foundation of how we develop and operate our games.

It's how we generate revenue, a blend of art and science. We seek to improve acquisition and retention, which is important in our game design, communication, and promotional plans.

We also hire at the entry level for various functions. At Kabam, we're looking for people with passion for games. We work in the entertainment business, and the passion to bring fun to our players important for our success.

What's your one piece of advice for those seeking a new job in the industry in this year?

Play a lot of games, monitor the charts, study the companies that develop and publish these games, and read the industry press.

Based on that market knowledge, flesh out your idea into a plan, and be ready to pitch.

Players have more choice than ever before in what entertainment they consume and how. There are many opportunities for experienced and new professionals alike to deliver the next hit of 2013.
