Amazon CFO Thomas Sztukat to step down in 2015

Amazon's chief financial officer Thomas J. Sztukat has announced his retirement, revealing plans to step down in summer 2015.

Sztukat, who has been with the retail giant for 12 years, will be replaced by Brian T. Olsavsky, the company's VP of finance.

Retiring for personal reasons, Sztukat has explained he's leaving in order to spend more time with family and friends.

New blood

"It's been a privilege for me to work with so many talented people who are continually inventing on behalf of customers, and now I look forward to spending more time with my family and other outside interests," said Sztukat.

"I've worked very closely with Brian Olsavsky over the past 12 years and have seen firsthand how talented he is, and I have confidence that he will be a great CFO for Amazon.com."

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has wished Sztukat well.

"Tom's impact over the past 12 years is evident in every part of our business," said Bezos.

"Under Tom's stewardship, customers have benefitted from category expansion and geographical expansion, along with amazing new businesses like AWS and Kindle.

"The day Tom joined the company was a very lucky one for Amazon's shareholders and customers and for all of us who've had the pleasure and fun of getting to work with him," added Bezos.

"We wish Tom and his family all the best in their next round of adventures."
