Steel Media is looking to hire a full-time WordPress and PHP web developer to join our tech team, responsible for building and maintaining our range of online projects.

Primarily working across all our own websites and those created for our clients (currently about 10 in total) you’ll be instrumental in running the technical needs of the WordPress builds with the view of maintaining them as they are and making improvements as required.

Working closely with our contract publishing team you’ll also be required to build new WordPress sites based on designed visuals, or adjusting pre-existing templates to satisfy the brief within an agreed timeframe.

Although your role will be initially focused on WordPress, you may also be required to work alongside the existing experienced team with our bespoke PHP built sites and generally play a very active role in the growth of Steel Media.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT MUST

Be a self-starter with intimate knowledge of web development, who is able to learn quickly, multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and drive results within a team through excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skillsBe able to demonstrate wide experience on the WordPress platformBe proficient in Javascript/HTML/CSS/PHP coding skillsShow discipline in testing and quality assuranceHave the ability to produce easy-to-use, intuitive user interfaces from prototypes and wireframes, and lead the development for design (experience building consumer web application interfaces)Have command of web standards, CSS-based design, cross-browser compatibilityHave knowledge of interaction design principlesBe able to think critically and provide recommendations for solutions or improvementsMeet regularly with product team to discuss release schedules as well as product strategyApply social media tools and channels (WordPress, Twitter, Facebook)Manage the technical platform for the sites, including hosting, coordinating with outside developers

EXPERIENCE

At least 2 years’ professional web development (WordPress)Translating comps and wireframes into flexible and usable WordPress templatesPHP proficiency to assist out on Steel Media’s non-WordPress sitesExperience in creating and modifying/expanding pluginsRapid prototyping of new products and featuresDisplay good Web Design sensibility (the role will require some autonomous handling of design – based on core brief)

DESIRABLE SKILLS

Be able to demonstrate skills at creating WordPress pluginsExperience with ASP classic programming language. (for one of our older legacy sites)Commercial Web Design experience

REMUNERATION

Salary: Dependant on experience
