The music and film industries aren't too keen on BitTorrent peer-to-peer (P2P) technology, but thus far, it hasn't troubled Apple too much. That seems set to change with a new application called appDowner.

It's a BitTorrent client for jailbroken iPhones, which is due for beta release soon, according to TorrentFreak. But besides allowing iPhone owners to download free music and movies, it will also let them download AND install iPhone apps.

The app will work with iPhones running the new 3.0 software, and will have its own dedicated Store section, letting people search and find iPhone apps.

However, one thing's not entirely clear. The blurb for appDowner seems to imply developers will be able to use it to distribute their iPhone apps to jailbroken handsets, promising that there is "No review process! Your apps will be added to the store within just a week!"

But will it also let people download cracked versions of commercial iPhone apps, too? If so, the launch of appDowner will be a real concern to games developers and publishers, who are already spooked by high levels of iPhone piracy.
