Designed primarily for corporate use, RIMs BlackBerry devices are not renowed for their gaming credentials.
Its a shame considering the number of devices in use - over 32 million - and the high prices that can be charged for fairly simple games.
Still, if the news from the BlackBerry Developer Conference in San Francisco is anything to go by, this situation may be about to change.
RIM has announced support for the OpenGL ES graphics standard, used by practically all smartphones including iPhone, in version 5.0 of the BlackBerry operating system.
Developers will be able to get their hands on the tech via an update of the BlackBerry Java Software Development Kit.
In addition, a deal with Adobe means developers can use Flash and Adobe Creative Suite, and support for new Java user interface tools will be rolled into a new versions of the BlackBerry Application Platform.
RIM will also improve the BlackBerry Payment Service, providing developers will new way to charge for content, including in-app transactions.
Developer can find out more at the BlackBerry Developers Zone.
