With Android the hot mobile platform of Mobile World Congress 2010, mobile retailing solutions company Accumulate has extended its Java Flexion wrapping engine to Android.
Flexion provides publishers, carriers and OEMs with flexible pricing options such as rental, try-before-you-buy and pay-to-play by controlling access to preloaded and downloaded content.
The wrapping process takes minutes and doesnt require or change a games source code. It also acts as a further DRM layer to improve security.
Once wrapped, Flexion-enabled games can operate as a shop front for additional content. Depending on the deployment, the system supports direct operator billing, credit card and premium SMS.
"Android is a key focus area for the industry in general," says Jens Lauritzson, Accumulate's MD.
"Providing our customers with the ability to combine the rich gaming and apps experiences offered by Android with our market leading pricing and retailing solutions was a natural next step for us and we look forward to help grow the market further."
The launch customer for the service will be Sony Ericsson, which will use it for pre-loaded content on its future Android phones.
Other existing Accumulate customers, such as Orange Group, Hutchison 3G and Telefonica O2, plan to roll out the service on their upcoming Android devices too.
