Six of the biggest Japanese mobile device companies have joined forces to create a new mobile application platform.
Due to launch some time at the beginning of March 2012, the platform will be developed to support high-quality 3D graphics and video.
The six partners - NTT DOCOMO, Renesas, Fujitsu, NEC, Panasonic, and Sharp - have said that the idea behind the co-operation is to cut app costs and get apps on the market more quickly.
A variety of devices will support the new platform - any mobile powered by Symbian or Linux OS will be compatible. Support for Android has not been confirmed yet.
