MWC 2011: Angry Birds and Zum Zum come out on top in GSMA Awards
As well as glitzy press conferences and tech announcements aplenty, Mobile World Congress has also played host to GSMA's 16th Annual Global Mobile awards, with Rovio's Angry Birds coming out on top in two categories.

The awards ceremony, which was hosted by Jonathan Ross, saw Angry Birds take home the title of App of the Year on Apple formats (where it is published by Chillingo) and Best Mobile App.

The other game to pick up an award was HeroCraft's Zum Zum, which was named as App of the Year on Nokia formats.

"This year’s awards attracted more than 600 entrants, with many high calibre entries across all categories," said GSMA CEO and board member Rob Conway.

"The GSMA congratulates the award winners and commends all finalists for their innovation, ingenuity and important contributions to the success of the mobile industry."

On the hardware front, Apple's iPhone 4 was proclaimed the best device, while HTC – which has smartphone handsets spread across both Android and Windows Phone – took top honours in the best manufacturer category.

A run down of the winners in full can be found on GSMA's website.
