Boost to launch strategy

Game discovery platform TeePee Games gains investment from Turner Broadcasting Europe
Currently in open beta, social games discovery platform TeePee Games has received a vote of confidence from Turner Broadcasting Europe.

The media outfit, which includes channels such as Cartoon Network, TNT, Adult Swim and brands like Ben10, Scooby Doo, Powerpuff Girls, has invested in the start up as part of a strategic partnership.

This will enable TeePee to expand its platform, and increase available content across a range of gaming formats including social, mobile and Flash.

The move is the second recent digital venture for Turner Europe, following its investment in online celebrity news site Starlounge.

"This series of deals signals Turner Broadcasting’s readiness to act on relevant investment and partnership opportunities in the digital and gaming space," said Jeff Kupsky, president TBS Europe.

"By investing in TeePee Games, Turner will strengthen its already robust digital gaming distribution and provide consumers with new ways of discovering and interacting with its games and characters on popular social networks like Facebook," added Casey Harwood, senior vice president TBS Europe.

The HowHow

Founded by Tony Pearce, who previously set up and sold mobile content distributor Player X to Zed, TeePee Games is an attempt to provide a community across social, Facebook, Flash and mobile games. It uses a discovery engine to encourage users to find, filter and store games from a multitude of sources, as well as offering rewards and loyalty points to incentivise activity.

"We are at the start of a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform the way people of all ages discover digital games across smartphones, social networks and the web," commented Pearce.

"Turner is an exceptionally forward-thinking company that shares our visions and ambitions."

TeePee Games is set to feature around 300 Facebook, 2,500 Flash and 100 Android games when it officially launches in the next few weeks.
