PopCap signs deal with Sony Ericsson to bring library to Xperia mini models

Developer's first steps on Android in Europe

PopCap signs deal with Sony Ericsson to bring library to Xperia mini models
A matter of weeks after PopCap put pen to paper with EA, the developer has inked another deal with Sony Ericsson, this time focusing on the studio's role on Android.

The two parties have come together to bring PopCap' library to Sony Ericsson's Xperia mini and mini pro smartphones, marking the first time the EA subsidiary's titles have appeared on Google’s platform in Europe.

Part and parcel

As a result of the agreement, Plants vs. Zombies, Peggle and Chuzzle will be pre-loaded (to varying degrees) onto the handsets, which will roll out later this summer.

Chuzzle will be embedded in its entirety, while Peggle and Plants vs. Zombies will be delivered as unlimited trial releases, albeit with the option of upgrading to the full release built-in.

"We are delighted to partner with Sony Ericsson to fulfill our promise to Android users and bring PopCap's hit mobile games to an ever-widening base of smartphone users," said PopCap's senior director of global product and business strategy for mobile, Giordano Bruno Contestabile.

"As the Android ecosystem matures, PopCap is committed to providing best-in-class game experiences for Android game players."

Sony Ericsson has described the deal as 'exclusive', suggesting said releases will be tied to Xperia mini handsets on Android for an undefined period.
